7 Activities to Kick Start Your Blogging

When it comes to blogging, many people feel overwhelmed. They don't know where to start, or what they should be doing. In the last blog post we discussed “5 Reasons to Start Blogging Today”.

In this blog post, we will discuss seven activities that you can do to get your blogging journey started! These activities will help you get organized and focused, so that you can create high-quality content that engages your readers.

Activity #01: Define your goals and objectives.

When it comes to blogging, it's important to have a clear goal in mind. What are you hoping to achieve with your blog? What do you want your readers to take away from your content? Once you have defined your goals and objectives, you can start creating content that aligns with them.

Activity #02: Create a content strategy.

Once you know what you want to achieve with your blog, you need to create a content strategy. This involves figuring out the topics you will write about, as well as the tone and style of your blog. By having a clear plan in place, you'll be able to create content that is both relevant and engaging for your readers.

Activity #03: Choose a platform.

There are many different platforms you can use to blog, such as WordPress, Squarespace, and Blogger. When choosing a platform, it's important to consider your needs and preferences.

Activity #04: Choose a domain name and host.

Once you have chosen a platform, you need to choose a domain name and host. A domain name is the address of your website (e.g. example.com), while a host is the company that provides the server space for your website. When choosing a domain name and host, it's important to compare different options and find one that fits your budget and needs.

Activity #05: Set up your blog.

Once you have chosen a platform, domain name, and host, you need to set up your blog. This involves creating an account with your chosen platform, and setting up your blog's settings. It might take a little bit of time to get everything set up correctly, but it will be worth it once your blog is up and running!

Activity #06: Start writing content.

Now that you have everything set up, it's time to start writing content. When creating your content, it's important to make sure that it is high-quality and relevant to your readers.

  • Create a blog or website with quality content that is unique to you – this will increase your search engine visibility, making it easier for people to find out about your business. For example, Blog your book by creating a series of posts focused on your area of expertise.

  • Show consistency by posting regularly about all sorts of topics related to your area of expertise - people will come to expect a certain standard from you, meaning they will be more likely to check out your website and social media profiles whenever you post something new.

  • Fun fact: Interviewing is one of the easiest ways to create a high quality blog post as most of the work and the parts of interest are the interviewees responsibility. Something else that works pretty well is asking 20-25 influencers in your niche for their response to a particular statement and publishing that. You might need to ask 50+ to get a response, but if you get enough you can build a post around it. For example, if you find there’s two opposing opinions you can use that to structure your post.

  • Creativity tip: Use multi-media content. When it comes to blogging, there are many different types of content that you can produce in order to engage and keep things interesting for your audience. Here are a few examples:

  • Audio content: You could podcast your blog posts, do an interview series, or even create a course!

  • Video content: You could vlog (video blog) about your day-to-day life in the industry, film educational videos or how-tos, or even host webinars.

  • Visual content: Create infographics to accompany your posts or even standalone blog posts, make memes or gifs, or put together photo essays.

  • Slide decks: If you’re feeling really ambitious, try creating a slide deck on a topic related to your business. This is great because it allows people to quickly consume the information in an easily digestible format.

  • Tech Tip: Search engines like Google prioritize websites which have been created specifically with that user in mind and contain high-quality content - so make sure yours fits the bill. You might also want to consider using keywords and other SEO techniques to help you rank higher in search engines.

Activity #07: Promote your blog.

In order for your blog to be successful, you need to promote it. You can promote your blog through social media, by guest posting on other blogs, or by using paid advertising. By promoting your blog, you will be able to reach a wider audience and attract more readers.

  • Speak at industry events and seminars. Invite members of the audience to write guest blog posts on your blog.

  • Produce content for niche blogs, magazines, newsletters, etc.

  • Write guest posts for other blogs in the industry. Reach out to publications that are related to your area of expertise and pitch them ideas for articles or guest posts. This will help promote yourself as an expert while also helping out others who need advice or information which you can provide! You can find people to write articles for by searching keywords related to your industry and location. Make the most of guest posting opportunities - this is how many bloggers get their big break! You can find them by searching for ‘write for us’ on websites in your industry.

Stay top of mind. When it comes to blogging, think of it as another form of content marketing – and just like with other forms of marketing, the goal is to stay top of mind so that people will think of you when they need your services or products.

By following these seven activities, you will be well on your way to becoming a successful blogger! Blogging is one of the best ways to connect with others who share your interests – whether they’re in your local community or around the globe!

Just remember to be patient, and to keep creating quality content that your readers will enjoy. If you do this, you'll be sure to achieve your blogging goals in no time!
