Use Your Speaker Platform to Lead, Teach and Inspire

There are three big mistakes that speakers make when trying to lead their clients towards change and transformation.

  • The first mistake is not speaking from a place of influence. When you speak, you must be in a position of authority so that your clients will listen to you.

  • The second mistake is not teaching your clients what they need to know. You must provide them with the information and tools they need to make the changes required for success.

  • The third mistake is not inspiring your clients. They need to be motivated to embrace change, and it's up to you as the speaker to inspire them!

The best way to avoid these mistakes is to speak to influence: use your platform to lead, teach and inspire. When you are in a position of authority, provide your clients with the information and tools they need, and inspire them to take action, you will be successful in leading them towards change and transformation.

Speak to Influence

What is your platform? What are you doing with it? These are important questions to ask ourselves as we journey through life. Whether our platform is a small stage or a large one, we have an opportunity to speak to influence those around us.

Cultivate storytelling skills as stories both influence and inspire those you’re trying to teach. Try this three-step formula: situation + context + delivery (the results of what happened).

Tell a story that has this structure so that people can understand it. Frame it with whatever information is necessary for them.

The other way is through data storytelling, which helps connect people with the information by making it more memorable and captivating. If done right, it will be one of the most powerful tools a you can use in your speaking presentations to inspire change or transformation within an audience – even if they’re not sure why yet!

What matters here isn’t necessarily just what you say or how you say it. It’s more about connecting on an emotional level with them so that when you do share information as a speaker, your listeners feel inspired by what they hear and want to take action after listening!

Lead, Teach, Inspire

The best way for you to lead your audience members is by speaking from a position of influence. You can do this in many ways: through your knowledge or experience; as an expert in a particular field; because people trust you based on past interactions; etc.

When people are listening, it’s time for us speakers (or leaders) to teach! In order to inspire action within our audiences we must first educate them about what they need to know before taking action towards something new or different than where they are currently at right now... It's not enough just telling them how amazing change feels without giving tangible takeaways that they can easily understand.

Speakers, let's be the change agents our clients need us to be! Use your platform to lead, teach and inspire those around you - it'll make all the difference in their ability to embrace change and transformation.

Speak to Lead

As speaker, you have a great responsibility. It is your job not only lead others towards their own transformation but also inspire them along the way! When we are able to do this, we can create lasting impact on our audience that will ripple out into the world for years after leaving stage.

Think about the speeches of Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. When they spoke, they were able to lead their audiences through the power of words into action.

Speak to Teach

Think for a moment about your favorite teacher. What did they do that made them so great? For me, I remember my economics teacher Dr. Jacinth Jayatilake, affectionately known as "Dr. J" She used the practical application of rather difficult economic concepts to help us understand the world around us. More often than not, she would use current events and examples from her own life to illustrate a point. She was able to speak to teach in a way that made complex topics relatable and applicable.

As speaker, your goal is ultimately to teach people something new about themselves or life in general. This isn't easy because we live busy lives with many distractions pulling us away from focusing on our goals every single day (e-mail notifications, social media posts competing for attention).

As speaker, it is important to remember your role as a teacher. It's not about being the smartest person on stage or knowing everything there is know about transformation leadership; it's about helping people understand what change means for them personally and how you can help them embrace it with confidence!

When you are speaking to your audience members - whether it's at an event or online via Youtube videos - make sure they know exactly why they need this information now more than ever before! Also consider using stories as way of illustrating concepts because they're memorable and relatable.

Speakers are performing a great service by teaching others how to cultivate the leader within.

Speak to Inspire

Perhaps one of the most important aspects of being speaker is inspiring others towards greatness. We all have within us the ability to achieve amazing things - but sometimes we need someone to light the way for us.

As speaker, it is your job shine that light and inspire people to step outside of their comfort zones and transform into the best version of themselves.

When you are able to do this in your speeches, workshops or programs then you will have truly mastered transformational leadership!

Conclusion

You can make a positive difference in the lives of your audience members by setting an intention to lead, teach and inspire. In which of these areas are you willing to focus your efforts in order to create the most meaningful impact?

When speakers take the time to understand their audience and craft speeches that speak to their needs, they are able to create lasting change.

In short, three of the biggest mistakes speakers make when trying to lead their clients towards change and transformation can be summarized as follows: not speaking to influence, not speaking to teach, and not speaking to inspire. Let's make sure we avoid these pitfalls so that we can help our audiences reach their potential!
